This non-for-profit was started from the ground up by two twin sisters in 2021. Having faced difficulty learning English as immigrants to the country, they understand what it's like for newcomer and refugee youth to feel alienated and excluded. Fueled by their entrepreneurial spirit, Meilun and Meihuan started The New Gen to say "no more" to an inequitable and unwelcoming Canada. Starting from self-taught zoom classes to a movement spanning 9 provinces, The New Gen has really altered the experience of newcomer youth across the country.

From immigrant youth who face the struggles of adjusting to a new country, to Indigenous youth living in remote areas without access to necessities, Canada is bursting with unrealized potential. Thousands of talented young people of colour face unique obstacles on their path to success in arts and innovation.

Our mission is to provide a platform where young innovators and creators of colour can promote their work and gain recognition while learning new skills with our free mentorship programs. We hope to create more opportunities for young creators of colour in Canada, so that they can give back to their respective communities with their skills. 

The New Gen is a federally registered and established non-for profit that aims to provide our participants with an opportunity to explore the potential of this new generation of Canadians .
